An osteometric approach to reconstruct the length and weight of Lutjanus argentiventris (Perciformes: Lujtanidae) for archaeological and ecological purposes Neotropical Ichthyology
Martínez-Polanco,María Fernanda; Béarez,Philippe.
ABSTRACT Lutjanus argentiventris presents a large intertropical distribution within the Eastern Pacific, which is as important to fisheries now as it was in the pre-Hispanic period. The purpose of this article is to present an allometric model that enables the size and weight of L. argentiventris to be predicted, using the isolated bones found in archaeological and paleontological contexts or the stomach contents of ichthyophagous species. A modern collection of L. argentiventris from Ecuador was used, composed of 37 individuals covering a wide range of sizes and weights. The total length (TL), standard length (SL), and total fresh weight (W) of each individual was gathered. The TL of the sample ranged between 210 and 760 mm, the SL between 164 and 627 mm...

CONFIRMATION OF THE OCCURRENCE OF THE CORAL PAVONA CHIRIQUIENSIS GLYNN, MATÉ AND STEMANN (CNIDARIA: ANTHOZOA: AGARICIIDAE) IN THE COLOMBIAN PACIFIC Boletín de Investigaciones
Zapata,Fernando A; Rodríguez-Ramírez,Alberto; Rodríguez-Moreno,Melina; Muñoz,Carlos G; López-Victoria,Mateo.

Ecosystems services vulnerability of Uramba Marine Protected Area Boletín de Investigaciones
Uribe-Castañeda,Natalia; Satizabal,Carlos Andrés; Herrera Orozco,Leonardo; Cantera Kintz,Jaime Ricardo.
ABSTRACT Systems of Uramba Marine Protected Area (MPA), like marine and coastal systems worldwide, sustain a great variety of ecosystem services (ES) (i.e. coastal protection, climate regulation, or food provision, etc.). Anthropogenic and natural stressors (i.e. coastal erosion, sea level rise, or overfishing, etc.) can transform, degrade, or limit the supply of ecosystem services. This study explores the vulnerability of Uramba MPA ecosystem services to anthropogenic and natural stressors. Stressors and ecosystems services were characterized by a literature review, an expert’s workshop, fieldtrips for validation, and georeferencing. To calculate the vulnerability of ecosystem services, the magnitude of each stressor, their risks, and their resilience...

Filling a gap: first record of the shell-less neritacean gastropod Titiscania limacina Bergh, 1890 in Colombia Boletín de Investigaciones
Londoño-Cruz,Edgardo.
ABSTRACT Recording marine biodiversity is a fundamental task and species distributions are at the very core of it. This paper is the first report of Titiscania limacina, a shell-less neritacean, in Colombia. This species was recorded in the intertidal of a rocky ecosystem at Gorgona National Natural Park, Pacific coast. This discovery fills a gap of this species distribution in the Tropical Eastern Pacific and calls attention to biodiversity monitoring, given the potential of this understudied Colombian coast to produce more and interesting findings of new species for the region, in particular, or for science, in general.

Functional-biogeography of the reef fishes of the islands of the Gulf of California: Integrating functional divergence into marine conservation ArchiMer
Olivier, Damien; Loiseau, Nicolas; Petatan-ramirez, David; Trujillo Milian, Oscar; Suarez-castillo, Alvin N.; Torre, Jorge; Munguia-vega, Adrian; Reyes-bonilla, Hector.
The Gulf of California (GC) is a semi-closed sea in the Tropical Eastern Pacific and is recognised as a highly diverse marine ecosystem. Despite this status, this region is still poorly studied in comparison to other marine hotspots. To start filling this gap, we attempt to provide a global overview of reef-fish diversity around the numerous islands of the region. We evaluated species richness, the abundance and biomass, and the functional diversity of the fish assemblages for the major islands of the GC. We first highlight that the southwestern part of the central GC is the hotspot of reef-fishes diversity within the GC, in terms of species richness, functional diversity, and fish abundance. We then found out an important functional divergence between...

Somatic growth rates of the Hawksbill Turtle, Eretmochelys imbricata, in Gorgona Natural National Park, Colombia, between 2004 and 2018 Boletín de Investigaciones
Cañas-Uribe,Mariana; Payán,Luis F.; Amorocho,Diego F.; Páez,Vivian P..
ABSTRACT The Hawksbill Turtle, Eretmochelys imbricata, is globally assessed as Critically Endangered, and information in the Eastern Pacific Ocean is limited. For this reason, this investigation evaluated the somatic growth rates in an immature hawksbill sea turtle aggregation using capture-mark-recapture on the coral reefs at Playa Blanca and La Azufrada in the Gorgona Natural National Park, Colombia. Between 2004 and 2018, we made 89 captures of 49 hawksbill individuals. The mean curved carapace length (CCL) obtained was 41.6 cm (range 32-58 cm), and the mean straight-line carapace length (SCL) was 39.1 cm (range 30.0-54.1 cm), showing these reefs to be critical foraging grounds for immature individuals. The mean body condition index was 1.3 (range...
