ABSTRACT Systems of Uramba Marine Protected Area (MPA), like marine and coastal systems worldwide, sustain a great variety of ecosystem services (ES) (i.e. coastal protection, climate regulation, or food provision, etc.). Anthropogenic and natural stressors (i.e. coastal erosion, sea level rise, or overfishing, etc.) can transform, degrade, or limit the supply of ecosystem services. This study explores the vulnerability of Uramba MPA ecosystem services to anthropogenic and natural stressors. Stressors and ecosystems services were characterized by a literature review, an expert’s workshop, fieldtrips for validation, and georeferencing. To calculate the vulnerability of ecosystem services, the magnitude of each stressor, their risks, and their resilience... |

The Gulf of California (GC) is a semi-closed sea in the Tropical Eastern Pacific and is recognised as a highly diverse marine ecosystem. Despite this status, this region is still poorly studied in comparison to other marine hotspots. To start filling this gap, we attempt to provide a global overview of reef-fish diversity around the numerous islands of the region. We evaluated species richness, the abundance and biomass, and the functional diversity of the fish assemblages for the major islands of the GC. We first highlight that the southwestern part of the central GC is the hotspot of reef-fishes diversity within the GC, in terms of species richness, functional diversity, and fish abundance. We then found out an important functional divergence between... |

ABSTRACT The Hawksbill Turtle, Eretmochelys imbricata, is globally assessed as Critically Endangered, and information in the Eastern Pacific Ocean is limited. For this reason, this investigation evaluated the somatic growth rates in an immature hawksbill sea turtle aggregation using capture-mark-recapture on the coral reefs at Playa Blanca and La Azufrada in the Gorgona Natural National Park, Colombia. Between 2004 and 2018, we made 89 captures of 49 hawksbill individuals. The mean curved carapace length (CCL) obtained was 41.6 cm (range 32-58 cm), and the mean straight-line carapace length (SCL) was 39.1 cm (range 30.0-54.1 cm), showing these reefs to be critical foraging grounds for immature individuals. The mean body condition index was 1.3 (range... |
